Leucorrhoea in baby girls is a normal thing to happen. Leucorrhoea is caused by high levels of maternal hormones during pregnancy. Leucorrhoea that comes out of the baby's vagina can be clear like egg white or there is little blood. Sometimes this vaginal discharge is also accompanied by a swollen vagina in infants.
How to Overcome Leucorrhoea in Babies
Basically, vaginal discharge in infants will usually disappear by itself after he is 10 days old and does not require special care. If you see vaginal discharge in your baby's vagina, you just need to wipe it off using a wet tissue that is free of perfume and alcohol. Make sure you wipe it from the front of the vagina to the anus.
In addition, the Mother needs to maintain the cleanliness of the baby's genital area. To care for the baby's vaginal hygiene, there are several ways you can do it, namely:
- If the baby poops before bathing, clean the stool first. If the stool touches the lips of the vagina, gently wipe the area, using a cotton swab, soft cloth that has been moistened with water, or wet tissue that is free of perfume and alcohol.
- Wipe the cotton, soft cloth, or wet tissue slowly from the vagina to the anus, along the folds in the baby's vital organs. Don't forget to clean all sides around the vaginal lips,
- Rinse baby's vagina with warm water slowly, along the folds of vital organs. This is useful to prevent the entry of bacteria that cause infections into the vagina.
- After the baby's vagina is cleaned, pat it with a clean towel or cloth to dry it.
Mother should not use soap or antibacterial cleaning products at all to clean the baby's vagina, because it can cause irritation to the vagina. In addition, Mother needs to be very careful when cleaning the vagina, so as not to cause injury.
Leucorrhoea in babies is quite normal and does not need to make you worry. However, Mother must immediately consult Little Pediatrician to the pediatrician if her vaginal discharge occurs more than two weeks, accompanied by fever or foul odor from the vagina, because this can indicate an infection.
